Put simply, International Beer Day is a holiday celebrating the greatness of beer. Every August 5th we take a break from our everyday lives and take part in a beertastic celebration of the human spirit, through the drinking and appreciation of beer.

The first International Beer Day was celebrated in 2007; however, by then the idea behind International Beer Day had already been brewing for quite some time. International Beer Day was first conceptualized by a group of college students participating in a process we like to call beerstorming. As you might have guessed, beerstorming is when you drink lots of beer in an effort to come up with brilliant ideas, whether for fun, for class, for profit, or just because you like drinking beer with your friends.

On the night in question, we were beerstorming band names for a friend’s new band, but a couple of hours (and many beers) into the evening, talk turned to how wonderful beerstorming itself was. After thoroughly discussing beerstorming’s merits, someone declared that there should be a beer holiday. We all like to take credit for this statement, but no one remembers for sure who really said it, and besides, does it really matter? What matters is that we were on to something!

After listing out all of the holidays that beer could be a part of, it was decided that beer needed its own day, to stand apart from all the rest. So, August 5th it would be, International Beer day was stated. So now, we bring International Beer Day to you, citizen of the world, may your International Beer Day be a time of joy, celebration and inebriation.

The basic idea is to enjoy beer more on International Beer Day than any other day of the year. Go out and have a great time with your friends and some great beer.
